The effects of climate change have drawn interest to technologies that can curb carbon emissions and achieve sustainable, green energy production. The South Korean government has also taken measures to improve our energy sector by initiating the Renewable Energy 3020 Policy. Specifically, progress has been made in actively integrating distributed generation units in the Jeju power grid. This paper seeks to model the effects of higher levels of penetration by distributed generation in the grid. PSS/E simulations of a fault were conducted under cases in which renewable energy consisted of 20%, 40%, and 55% of total power generated. Bus voltages dropped during all cases, and consequential PV trip led to significant frequency droop. It is apparent that further studies must be conducted to reduce such detrimental effects.
