In the near future, distribution power system will experience some problems because of the getting higher penetration of photovoltaic (PV) generations. Under certain high PV penetration level, the over-voltage problem may occur in the grid due to reverse power flow. To resolve these problem, in this paper application of controllable reactive power using PV Inverter is suggested. This suggestion means the inverter connected to PV module for power conversion can generate controllable reactive power to regulate the voltage of point of common coupling (PCC). Generating controllable reactive power by PV inverter is implemented using relation between amplitude of sinusoidal control signal and magnitude of output voltage in pulse width modulation (PWM) control system. In this paper, effects of absorption of reactive power by PV inverter in distribution system are analyzed and through comparison of some cases, the most proper quantity of reactive power and distribution of absorption are defined. Simulation of inverter and high PV distribution system is implemented using PSCAD/EMTDC program.
